Speaking Engagements
Attorneys who are invited to speak at conferences or events are often viewed as leaders in their field. Their ability to speak on a particular topic suggests a deep understanding of the subject matter. On multiple occasions, Tony Tinelli was asked to be a presenter at the Windstorm Insurance Network annual conferences.
Windstorm Insurance Network was founded in 1999 and is an annual conference and member association bringing together policyholder and defense professionals to learn, connect, and engage in important topics in the windstorm and property insurance claims industry. Windstorm Insurance Network was incorporated on September 16, 1999—the same day when Hurricane Floyd hit the Eastern United States, and it is a 501C(3). They considered this a fitting date to start an educational association they created for windstorm and property insurance claims industry professionals. WIND operates with a mission to foster cooperation between windstorm insurance professionals in relation to applying insurance and claims practices using training, education, and encouraging high ethical standards of professionalism and conduct among this organization’s members.
Tony has presented the following presentations in previous years for the benefit of insurance professionals:
2019 – The Shape of Water – This presentation was an analysis of assessing roofing system damage causes and applying legal principles surrounding a homeowner’s insurance policy coverage.
2021 – Large Loss – Tony’s presentation was an analysis of Window and door claims under a residential commercial insurance policy.
Super Lawyers
Super Lawyers recognizes the top attorneys nationwide, across a variety of practice areas and firm sizes, using a patented process of independent research and peer input. Super Lawyers selects attorneys using a patented multiphase selection process. Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with independent research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis. The objective is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel. Since Super Lawyers is intended to be used as an aid in selecting a lawyer, it limits the lawyer ratings to those who can be hired and retained by the public.
Super Lawyers identifies two categories:
Super Lawyer: Five percent of the total lawyers in the state are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers.
Rising Star: To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less. The top 2.5 percent in each state are named to the Rising Stars list

Are insurance companies forcing their way into policyholder’s homes?
Tony Tinelli wrote an article for a leading property insurance publication, Property Casualty 360 and The Daily Business Review, that analyzed provisions in some policies that allowed a carrier the right to make repairs to damage instead of making payment directly to the policyholder and allow the homeowner to hire the contractor of their choice.
Are insurance companies looking out for their policyholders?
In the September 18, 2017 edition of the Daily Business Review, Tony Tinelli, who represented insurance companies for the first 13 years of his career, said he handled thousands of claims on behalf of insurance companies that were underpaid or improperly applied exclusions. The policyholders ended up hiring public adjusters and attorneys “because they were being paid $200 to repair a roof that needed to be replaced,” he said, adding that, in hindsight, they would have been better off hiring them sooner.”
Why does People’s Trust Insurance keep suing its own insured?
Tony Tinelli was quoted in a Sun Sentinel article that reviewed People’s Trust Insurance Company’s practice of suing its policyholders in order to force the homeowner to use its “preferred contractor” to make repairs instead of paying insurance proceeds. “For one insurance company to sue its homeowners to that extent is unprecedented.”
